Introduction
As the team behind the Redragon brand, we thrilled to present a comprehensive review of one of our best-selling products, the Redragon K552 mechanical keyboard. This keyboard has been a popular choice for many first-time mechanical keyboard users due to its affordability and quality. Let's delve into the details to see if it's still worth considering in 2023.
Design and Build Quality
The Redragon K552 is a solidly built keyboard that feels like a tank. It is incredibly sturdy with no flex, making it a fantastic choice for those who value durability. The keyboard features a top metal plate with a squared-off form factor, giving it a robust and premium look. The Redragon logo, which some users may not prefer, is subtly placed and can be easily removed with an eraser if desired.
Switch Options
The K552 comes with Ootemu red switches, known for their reliability and performance. The full RGB version of the keyboard offers blue, red, or brown switch options, providing users with a variety of choices to suit their typing preferences.
Stabilizers and Keycaps
The stabilizers on the K552 are decent, although not as well-tuned as some competitors. However, they can be upgraded for an improved typing experience. The keycaps on the K552 are of good quality, contributing to the solid feel when typing.
RGB and Hot Swap Ability
The full RGB version of the K552 offers bright, per-key lighting that can be customized to your liking. The keyboard also features Aotemu hot swap sockets, which means you can easily replace the switches with other Aotemu switches or compatible ones like the Echo switches. This feature allows for a high level of customization and upgradability, making the K552 a great choice for those who like to tweak their keyboards.
Modding Potential
The K552 is an excellent choice for those interested in modding. Its solid build quality makes it a great base for modifications. While it doesn't come with case or PCB dampening, these can be easily added to improve the acoustics of the keyboard. The keyboard's design also makes it relatively easy to disassemble for modding, with fewer screws than some competitors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Redragon K552 remains a worthy choice in 2023, especially for those on a budget or those looking to get into mechanical keyboards. Its solid build quality, switch options, and modding potential make it a versatile keyboard that can cater to a variety of needs. Whether you're a gamer, a typist, or a keyboard enthusiast, the K552 has something to offer you.
